Oral propranolol for exudative retinal detachment in diffuse choroidal hemangioma.

چکیده
T he main abnormality of the uveal tract in patients with Sturge-Weber syndrome is diffuse choroidal hemangioma (DCH). Diffuse choroidal hemangioma can lead to a total retinal detachment and secondary neovascular glaucoma. Radiotherapy and photodynamic therapy are currently the preferred methods of treatment. Low-dose lens-sparing radiotherapy or proton beam irradiation can induce tumor regression and resolution of subretinal fluid. Short-term treatment success using photodynamic therapy has also been reported. The use of oral propranolol hydrochloride has been described for infantile orbital and periorbital hemangioma. Recently, Léauté-Labrèze et al observed that systemic propranolol could inhibit the growth of infantile hemangioma (IH) lesions in children. The response of IH to propranolol catapulted the use of this treatment to first-line status among physicians managing this disease. We report the use of oral propranolol for exudative retinal detachment in DCH associated with SturgeWeber syndrome.

BACKGROUND Patients with Sturge-Weber syndrome can have ipsilateral diffuse or circumscribed choroidal hemangiomas. These hemangiomas have been seen to undergo spontaneous exudative or hemorrhagic retinal detachments. There is no definitive treatment for these types of retinal detachments, but radiotherapy, photodynamic therapy, oral propranolol, pegaptinib and bevacizumab have been used. CAS...
متن کاملRuthenium-106 Plaque Therapy for Diffuse Choroidal Hemangioma in Sturge-Weber Syndrome
Diffuse choroidal hemangiomas associated with Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) are classically treated with external beam radiotherapy (EBR), but there are a few reports usually of single cases indicating the usefulness of plaque therapy. We present our observations on two cases of diffuse choroidal hemangiomas with exudative retinal detachment associated with SWS treated with Ruthenium-106 plaque t...

Purpose. To report the treatment outcome of photodynamic therapy with verteporfin (PDT) for exudative retinal detachment (RD) associated with diffuse choroidal hemangioma in Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS). Methods. An interventional case report of a 10-year-old girl with SWS who developed an exudative RD (visual acuity hand motions) that was treated with PDT. She was treated with a first session o...
متن کاملCircumscribed Choroidal Hemangioma
Circumscribed choroidal hemangioma is an uncommon, benign vascular tumor manifesting as an orange-red mass in the posterior pole of the eye. Serous retinal detachment accounts for decreased vision in most patients. Diagnosis of this tumor is challenging with many patients initially misdiagnosed with choroidal melanoma or metastasis. Several ancillary tests such as ultrasonography, fluorescein a...
